NeHC seeks a chief executive officer to continue the organization’s mission in supporting the development of interoperable health information technology. The NeHC CEO will support nationwide initiatives aimed at using information technology to enable improvements in the quality, safety, efficiency and accessibility of healthcare in the U.S.

The Role

• Visionary and entrepreneurial leader who can contribute to or disseminate the need for, and benefits of, a national health information infrastructure
• Oversee and facilitate support for the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN), its processes, workgroups and committees
• Develop critical relationships based on trust and credibility, with the leadership of multiple and diverse organizations including state and federal public health officials and the stakeholder organizations critical to NeHC’s future
• Expand the number of memberships in the organization
• Develop new activities which complement existing work for the government to be funded through the organization’s cooperative agreement

The Qualifications

• A leader, advisor, consultant and strategist with the demeanor, business maturity, intellect and integrity required to establish immediate credibility with critical stakeholders
• Significant organizational experience demonstrating the vision for developing a larger enterprise with the hands-on ability to lead a start-up operation
• Credible knowledge about healthcare and health IT through experience in a large health system, a major association of organizations supporting similar goals, a medical school or research organization, or other health and health IT entities
• Experience working with government entities and multiple stakeholders
• Ability to instill in others a strong bias for action coupled with the ability to set priorities in the face of ambiguity
• Experience in moving an organization forward through complex decisions and change issues
• Willing to make decisive, tough decisions
• Comfortable with taking reasonable risks
• Ability to work closely and effectively with a strong board of directors
• Minimal educational qualification is a college degree, with preference for an advanced degree.
