Program Description

These programs are intended to provide stakeholders with valuable information about the various ONC and other federal initiatives, including those that make up the Nationwide Health Information Network program, and how these programs are working with other industry efforts to create an open and inclusive ecosystem for robust, secure electronic exchange of health information.

  • Date: Thursday, August 30 12:00-2:00PM ET

  • Description: After months of speculation, the final rules for Meaningful Use Stage 2 and Standards and Certification Criteria have been released. On Thursday, August 30, NeHC will host experts on both of these rules for a single webinar to walk through the intricacies and answer questions on each rule. First, NeHC will be joined by Travis Broome from CMS’s Office of E-Health Standards and Services to give an overview of the Meaningful Use final rule and answer attendee questions. Travis will also discuss the feedback that was incorporated into the final rule and what this means for those ready to attest for both Stage 1 and Stage 2. Then, NeHC will once again welcome Steve Posnack, Director of the Federal Policy Division at Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) to join us for an in-depth look at the final certification requirements for electronic health records. Steve will discuss secure messaging standards, including Direct protocols, and will give his insight into the next steps.

  • Description: In honor of Health IT Week, NeHC will be hosting a series with the Office of the National Coordinator to highlight their initiatives related to privacy and security. Joy Pritts, Chief Privacy Officer at ONC will kick off the program with an overview of the recent projects ONC has undertaken. Then, Laura Rosas, Privacy and Security Professional at ONC and Will Phelps, HIT Cyber Security Program Officer with the US Department of Health and Human Services, will give an interactive demonstration of Cybersecure: Your Medical Practice, a new avatar-based game meant to enhance organizations’ understanding of privacy and security.

  • Description: On Thursday, September 13 from 1:00PM-2:30PM ET, we will have Deputy National Coordinator David Muntz and Doug Fridsma, Director, Office of Science and Technology, to lead a discussion on the progress of the Standards and Interoperability Framework.  Dr. Holly Miller from MedAllies, Inc. and David Tao from Siemens Healthcare will also join this program to discuss the S&I Framework from the perspective of a provider and a vendor respectively.

  • Description: On September 14 we will be joined by Farzad Mostashari, Carolyn Clancy, and Patrick Conway to discuss how ONC, AHRQ, and CMS are collaborating on Quality and Health IT. This webinar will provide a vision for the quality measurement enterprise of the future and the necessary steps to transition to health IT enabled measurement, reporting and feedback that drive improvement in care and outcomes. The presenters will also identify challenges moving forward in realizing this vision including the need for continued public-private collaboration to continuously evolve and improve the enterprise.  There will be at least 30 minutes reserved for questions and discussion.

  • Description: On Tuesday, November 27th, 2012, the comment period opened for the Health IT Policy Committee’s request for comment (RFC).  On Friday, December 7 from 1:30-3:00PM ET, NeHC will host a webinar to review the concepts and questions put forth in the RFC and also provide additional context to assist the public in submitting informed comments by the January 14, 2013 deadline. Attendees will gain an understanding of how the RFC fits into the Meaningful Use Stage 3 rule making process, the proposed meaningful use measures and objectives, the proposed future state of clinical quality measurement, and an understanding of the privacy and security questions that experience from the public can help inform.

  • Description: The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) final rules for meaningful use (MU) stage 2 include specific requirements for providers to share summary of care records during transitions of care, and for certified Electronic Health Record (HER) technology to make this possible.  Join us for a webinar that will explore options on how Health Information Service Providers (HISPs), Health Information Organizations (HIOs) and others can support providers in meeting MU stage 2 transitions of care criteria, plus a discussion of requirements for eligible professional and hospital use of certified EHR technology to achieve MU stage 2 transitions of care measures.
