These programs are intended to provide stakeholders with valuable information about the various ONC and other federal initiatives, including those that make up the Nationwide Health Information Network program, and how these programs are working with other industry efforts to create an open and inclusive ecosystem for robust, secure electronic exchange of health information.

Description: On February 22, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the proposed requirements for Stage 2 Meaningful Use, which is scheduled to begin in 2014. For this webinar, NeHC will be joined by Robert Anthony from CMS’s Office of E-Health Standards and Services to give an overview of the proposed rule and the next steps. Robert will also detail the qualifications necessary to be a stage 2 meaningful user of electronic health records as well as the implications of the rule on data sharing and patient engagement.

Description: Continuing NeHC’s series on the recently-released proposed rules, Steven Posnack, Director of the Federal Policy Division at Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, will give an overview of the new standards and certification requirements for electronic health records, including the requirement that EHRs be able to support Direct Project protocols and SMTP and SMIME secure messaging standards.

Description: NeHC University welcomes Claudia Williams, Director of the State HIE Program at ONC for an hour-long discussion of ONC's recently-released national HIE strategy. Claudia will address the current environment of exchange, including cost of exchange, payment models, and various approaches to exchange. She will then go on to discuss ONC's role in fostering exchange as well as how it can be advanced in 2012 and beyond. She will also discuss the strides made to enable exchange through meaningful use and what challenges lie ahead.
