Description: This program will serve as an orientation to the basics on health IT and AV technologies. Topics discussed will include the landscape and direction of the AV industry, the drivers for healthcare transformation and how health IT fits in, and the role of both government and the private sector. The program will also explore the forces that are bringing the AV and health IT together, the future outlook for health IT and AV, and opportunities for synergy and business growth. This program will provide a strong foundation for attendees to navigate these rapidly evolving fields.

Opening Keynote - The Future of Healthcare: Reflections on the Election

Description: Healthcare has been a powerful factor of influence in the 2012 election cycle, with striking differences expressed about the role of government in improving healthcare quality and controlling cost. In an impactful post-election keynote address, David Merritt, Managing Director of Leavitt Partners and long-time politico, will examine the new balance of power following the Presidential and Congressional elections and what that could mean for the healthcare sector. Mr. Merritt will consider the potential consequences of election outcomes on the pace and trajectory of healthcare transformation, including efforts to accelerate adoption of health IT and payment reform efforts such as the rise of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), and will engage participants in discussion about how they are adapting their strategies for 2013 and beyond.

This panel will discuss how advancements in telehealth and telemedicine continue to improve the quality of care patients receive, especially those in remote or underserved areas, how healthcare providers are scaling this technology to serve more purposes and patients and how AV and IT experts can play a role in the continuing growth of this increasingly important healthcare sector.

Consumers today have an expectation of control over their information and data; that expectation has now become clear in healthcare as well. During this keynote, Dr. Doug Fridsma will discuss how the proliferation of personal mobile devices and other connected tools have changed the way healthcare is delivered and how the healthcare system must continue evolving to keep up with market demands and a new generation of tech savvy patients.
